ARTIST STATEMENT
My art is the by-product of my creativity and each piece defines itself in the most appropriate style and medium.
My work is a product of leaning and exploring so it is pretty diverse in appearance… everything from classic water color renderings to abstract and surreal oils. Although I am inspired by many things, it is generally the grace, color, and texture found in the details of nature that indicates my motivation.
For the most part, my work is not particularly deep, cynical or political; just the product of an artist’s need to create and to master a tool or medium. My of my abstracts go untitled so that the viewer can attach their own emotions and reactions to them.
BIOGRAPHY
Brenda came to Colorado from Georgia to visit a friend in 1999. She never left. She fell in love with the mountains, the colors, the weather and the people.
Brenda’s need for creativity began at a very young age. Jill Russell, an artist, and a neighbor had an early influence in the artistic lessons Brenda received as a young child. Brenda would model for and mimic her tutor’s artistic skills. Through her teachings by Russell, Brenda learned to see the world in ways that would change her life.
After high school, there was never a question of whether Brenda would attend college or what she would study. She declared herself an Art major and began searching for the path she desired to follow. Each discipline brought new interest and motivation. After graduating, the reality of life as an artist became evident so she surrendered to her financial needs and took a job in advertising, graphic design and visual merchandising. She grew and excelled despite the constraints and found herself both appreciated and respected for her accomplishments in the retail industry.
